The Conservation Alliance . "is a group of 62 outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots citizen-action groups and their efforts to protect wild and natural areas where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. (650) 948-7658) "The Foundation provides national and international grants, and also has a special focus on the Northern California counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey." They make grants in support of Conservation Science, Water, Land and Energy conservation, Habitat protection and capacity building in the Western Pacific, Cascadia, Hawaii, and Mexico, and accept "unsolicited proposals relating to the Conserving California Landscapes Initiative and Sustainable Fisheries."

Our Training and Organizational Assistance Program, Technology Resources Program , Workplace Solicitation Program, and new Environmental Loan Fund help these vital environmental groups become better managed, funded and equipped. In 8 years the ESC has granted more than $750,000 for training and organizational assistance, donated computers and office machines worth nearly $2 million to 700 organizations. ESC began an equipment donation project in 1991, because often the basic office equipment available to grassroots environmental groups is scarce or out-of-date. ESC also donates Lotus software to grassroots organizations. Organizations may request up to three free software packages in one calendar year for a low shipping and handling fee."

The Pew Charitable Trusts (2005 Market Street, Suite 1700, Philadelphia, PA 19103-7077, Tel: (215) 575-9050, email: webmaster@pewtrusts.com ) "A Philadelphia-based foundation with approximately $4.7 billion in assets, invested over $213 million in 298 nonprofit organizations in 1998.". The Environment program awarded over $38 million to 60 groups in 1998, and "aims to promote policies and practices that protect the global atmosphere and preserve healthy forest and marine ecosystems."
