Who we are: T he
goal of the ESRI Conservation Program (ECP) is to support conservation groups
and related non-profit local, international, and indigenous organizations
in acquiring, learning, and using geographic information system (GIS) tools
and methods. ECP has a particular focus on providing appropriate levels
of technology for locally sustainable programs. It's goal is not to throw
one-off donations into a vacuum, but to build permanent, locally based support
that provides ongoing evolutionary growth in GIS and Conservation skills.

The Alliance Lives!: The Society for Conservation GIS is a new international non-profit organization composed of conservationists and GIS folks from all over the world. SCGIS puts on an annual conference, an international scholarship program, a Conservation GIS magazine and list server, and many other activities. The SCGIS was formed at the 1996 ESRI User Conference out of numerous ECP activists and grantees who wanted to do more. SCGIS News . . SCGIS Magazine . . SCGIS Website
GIS for Native and Indigenous Groups: ECP also manages grants to Native American, First Nation and Indigenous groups worldwide. The Intertribal GIS Council is a Native American Association helping in this program.

Tutorials in Conservation and GIS: The ECP is constantly trying to develop, support, and improve training materials to help conservationists from all backgrounds learn about and effectively apply GIS technology to their tasks and missions. The Conservation Data Manager (CDM) is an experimental ECP software initiative to integrate all types of natural history and systematics data into GIS data models and applications. ----What Is GIS? ----Designing Nature Reserves: past, present and future ----ECP-CDM Parks Tutorial ----ECP-CDM Species Tutorial ----ECP-CDM ArcView Manual ----ECP-CDM Foxpro Manual (coming) ----Conservation GIS Training
Seminar Series in Conservation GIS: The ECP has developed an ongoing series of seminars in different areas of GIS, Science and Conservation. Draft versions of these seminars appear below: ----GIS for Scientists and Systematists 1 ----GIS for Scientists and Systematists 2 ----GIS for Scientists and Systematists 3 ----GIS Design for Parks (Coming Soon) ----GIS Methods for Reserve Design (Soon)
